Why I’m Rebranding the Balance App: A Personal Journey from Fitness to Functional Healing
A few months ago, I hit a crossroads in my professional journey—and it led me straight to the heart of the chronic illness community.
As a Functional Nutritionist and Exercise Physiologist, I’ve had the honor of helping women navigate some of the most confusing, exhausting, and emotionally taxing seasons of their lives. Many of my 1:1 clients come to me in complete survival mode—burnt out from doctor visits, frustrated with “normal” lab results, and completely disconnected from their bodies. They’re dealing with real, complex conditions like autoimmune disease, POTS, MCAS, mold toxicity, or chronic Lyme, and they’re desperate for relief that goes beyond a prescription.
And truthfully? I’ve been there myself.
The Disconnect I Couldn’t Ignore…
While I was supporting these women on their healing journeys, I was also still running the Balance App in its original form—a robust workout platform with weekly strength training, HIIT, cardio, and movement challenges.
And here’s the truth I had to face: the workouts I was putting out every week weren’t aligned with the women I was actually helping.
In fact, I couldn’t even do some of those workouts anymore—not since my own health crash. I started to feel like I was pretending to be the “old me,” the fitness pro who could push hard 6 days a week. Meanwhile, the clients I was serving needed something entirely different—something that honored flare days, fatigue, food reactions, and dysautonomia.
What if They Couldn’t Exercise…Yet?
Over and over, I heard the same phrase from women living with chronic illness:
“I can’t exercise.”
And I knew what they meant. The fatigue is real. The dizziness is real. The inflammation, the crashing, the trauma responses… all of it makes traditional fitness feel impossible—and often unsafe.
But what I also know is this: movement, when done right, can be medicine!
During the worst phases of my illness, I still moved my body. Not with burpees or bootcamps—but with mindful walks, gentle stretching, breathwork, and restorative movement that made me feel better, not worse. And I realized, I had something special to offer: a system that combines movement, mindfulness, symptom tracking, and foundational habit-building—all tailored to the chronic illness experience.
What I Found (or Didn’t Find) on the Market
Out of curiosity, I started researching. Surely someone had already created this kind of app, right?
- ⚫ I found symptom trackers.
- ⚫ I found food sensitivity journals.
- ⚫ I found meditation platforms.
But what I didn’t find? A single app that brought it all together. There was no wellness platform built specifically for people living with chronic illness. No app that offered anti-inflammatory workouts, nervous system regulation, nourishing recipes, habit tracking, and a supportive community—all in one place.
So I looked at the Balance App—the bones were already there. It just needed to be rebuilt with a new purpose!
One Dinner Date Changed Everything
I sat across from my husband Frankie, who also happens to be the brilliant software engineer behind the Balance App. Over dinner, I said:
“What if we took the Balance App from being one of a million workout apps…
…to becoming a one-of-a-kind wellness app for people like me?”
He was quiet for a second. Then said what I was already thinking:
“I can’t believe this doesn’t exist already.”
And that was it—the rebrand was born!
✨ What’s Changing in the NEW Balance App!
The new Balance App is being rebuilt from the ground up for people with complex chronic conditions—like autoimmunity, CIRS, mold illness, MCAS, Lyme, EDS, and POTS.
Here’s what you’ll find inside:
