Voyage Savannah Feature: Kristie Calise & the Balance App

I recently had the honor of being featured in Voyage Savannah for an interview titled “Exploring Life & Business with Kristie Calise of Balance App LLC.” If you’ve followed my work for any length of time, you know I don’t share my story for attention—I share it because personal experience matters, especially in the weeds of your health journey when you’re dealing with unexplained symptoms, chronic fatigue, and the feeling that you’re trying everything… with no clear answers.

In the interview, I open up about what life looked like before my health crashed. In my 20s, I was living at full throttle: natural bodybuilding, owning a fitness studio, running a meal-prep business, and helping manage one of the top-performing gym franchises in the United States. I was an Exercise Physiologist who looked “healthy” on the outside… while my body was quietly unraveling on the inside.

What began as fatigue and gut issues became a decade-long battle with mold illness (CIRS), chronic Lyme, POTS, Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, SIBO, immune dysfunction, and other complex health conditions—the kind of invisible illnesses that can steal your life while you still look “fine.” And one of the hardest struggles wasn’t just the symptoms. It was navigating a healthcare system that often isn’t built for chronic conditions… including the very real experience of medical gaslighting.

I was told it was anxiety. I was dismissed. I was treated like my symptoms were “too complicated.” But I kept going. I made learning my full-time job—research, clinical trainings, case studies, mentorships—because I refused to accept that this was just my forever.

That’s a huge part of what led me to become a Functional Nutrition Practitioner and later a Board Certified Integrative & Functional professional. Root causes matter. The nervous system matters. Gut health matters. Detox capacity matters. Hormone imbalances matter. And if someone doesn’t help you connect the dots, it’s easy to feel stuck and hopeless.

The interview also shares the heart behind what I’m building as the founder of the Balance App. Balance: Fitness for Healing is designed for people who want a sustainable health routine—without the “push harder” culture that can backfire for chronic illnesses. Inside the app, members get weekly workouts that are gentle, low-impact, and built with symptom-sensitive strategies, plus nervous system regulation support like breathwork and meditation. We also focus heavily on foundational habits because those tiny daily choices can make a world of difference over time.

One of the most meaningful parts of the feature is that Balance App LLC is a husband-and-wife team. My husband Frank is a software engineer, and he built Balance from the ground up during seasons when I was simply trying to survive and create a safe environment for my body to stabilize. Together, we’re creating a compassionate space filled with practical tools and nervous system tools that support real life—not perfection.

If you’ve ever felt dismissed, overwhelmed, or like your body is “too complex,” I want you to hear this: you’re not broken, and you’re not alone. And if you’d like to read the full interview (it’s such a meaningful snapshot of my own healing process and why Balance exists), click below!
